Tirimo is back - in very fine company

From the archive, first published Thursday 2nd Oct 2003.

Having thrilled Herefordshire audiences when, as solo pianist, he performed an entire series of Beethoven sonatas at the Shirehall, Cypriot Martino Tirimo returns to the county this month.

A child prodigy who conducted seven performances of Verdi's La Traviata at the age of 12, he gained the highest honours at the Royal Academy of Music and in Vienna, followed by victories in the International Piano Competitions of Munich (1971) and Geneva (1972.

These launched a career that has seen him appear countless times in major concert halls across the globe.

His current tour is with The Rosamunde Trio featuring violinist Ben Sayevich, and cellist Daniel Veis, recognised as the finest Czech cellist of his generation. He has been Martino's concert and recording partner for the past 25 years.

The works being played on the tour are by Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Ravel and Tchaikovsky and include some of the most beautiful works in the whole chamber repertoire.

The Trio, who start their tour in London, play at Wyastone Concert Hall, Monmouth on October 5; Shirehall, Hereford on October 11; Huntingdon Hall, Worcester on October 12 and the Lion Ballroom, Leominster on October 13.
