Autumnal offerings at Malvern

From the Hereford Times, first published Thursday 27th Sep 2007.

IT'S the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness - and the annual Autumn Malvern Festival.

Running throughout October, the festival is a feast of artistic events with some of the most prestigious musicians, poets, writers and other artists performing in and around Malvern.

Starting with a literary dinner on Wednesday, October 3, at which the guest speaker is Birmingham's Poet Laureate, Julie Boden, and ending with a concert featuring the Fitzwilliam String Quartet at Great Malvern Priory on Sunday, October 28, the festival includes talks (among them one on Jenny Lind to mark the 120th annivary of the Swedish singer's death in Malvern), films, including rare footage of Elgar, music - from rare, late songs of Elgar's in Go, Song of Mine to the Fitzwilliam String Quartet on October 28 - and exhibitions.

Among the latter is a new exhibition of sculpture from Worcestershire sculptor, Caro Sweet. Entitled Imagineers, the exhibition can be seen during October at the Robson Ward Belle Vue Terrace showroom.

The exhibition features as its centrepiece the newly completed sculpture Imagineer, depicting a central figure encircled by energetic figures and forms representing dreams and imaginings for the future.

"Imagineer was a deceptively challenging piece to make," says Caro. "The figures and forms needed lots of movement to make them appear exciting and believable while retaining a whimsical and ethereal quality."

Visitors to the showroom can view the exhibition from October 1 to 27, open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

Tickets available from the Malvern Theatres box office on 01684 892277.
